Nora Aunor, a revered icon in Philippine cinema, has passed away at the age of 71. Her family confirmed the news on Wednesday through social media, though the cause of death was not disclosed.

“She inspired countless lives with her extraordinary talent, humility, and dedication to her art,” her daughter, actress Lotlot de Leon, shared in a heartfelt post. “Her legacy is eternal, and her spirit will continue to shine in every performance she left behind.”

Aunor rose from humble beginnings in Iriga City to become a household name in film, music, and television. With a career spanning nearly seven decades, she was honored in 2022 as a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts—one of the Philippines’ highest cultural recognitions.

 

She first found fame as a singer in the 1960s, later transitioning into acting, where she built a remarkable portfolio of over 200 roles across film and television.

Among her most acclaimed roles was in the 1995 film The Flor Contemplacion Story, which depicted the real-life case of a Filipino domestic worker executed in Singapore.
