Orlando, The Official Tourism Association, revealed that in 2023, the city hosted 6.13 million international visitors, marking a remarkable 25% surge compared to the previous year. Leading the pack, Canada emerged as Orlando’s primary international market, with over 1.2 million visitors making their way to the city in 2023, a record-breaking figure for this market in Orlando’s history.
We saw strong gains from all of our core international markets, particularly from Canada, which brought in record-breaking visitation numbers,” said Casandra Matej, president and CEO for Visit Orlando. “Orlando’s international growth is a testament to the uniqueness of our unbelievably real destination, the support from our travel trade partners and our emphasis on strategic marketing initiatives to help drive visitation from our key markets.”
In 2023, international visitation to Orlando reached 94% of pre-pandemic levels, with Canada, the U.K., and Brazil leading the charge.
Here’s a breakdown of the top three markets:
- Canada saw a remarkable increase, reaching 1,256,000 visitors, a record-breaking number.
- The United Kingdom followed with 877,000 visitors, marking an 8% increase.
- Brazil showed a notable increase as well, with 696,000 visitors, up by 21%.
Several factors contributed to this growth, including enhanced airlift services to Orlando’s key markets and streamlined visa processes in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. Visit Orlando’s “Unbelievably Real” marketing campaign, including the “Winter Doesn’t Exist” initiative in key markets during colder months, also played a significant role in boosting awareness and interest in Orlando’s attractions.
These figures were shared during the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW event, which attracts industry professionals and media from around the world. Comprehensive visitation data, including domestic leisure and group travel, will be disclosed later in May.
Looking ahead to 2024, Orlando’s status as the Theme Park Capital of the World remains strong, with a host of new attractions set to debut. Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park will introduce “Tiana’s Bayou” and “The Country Bear Musical Jamboree,” while SeaWorld Orlando celebrates its 60th Anniversary with “Penguin Trek.” Universal Orlando Resort will unveil “Dreamworks Land” at Universal Studios Florida, along with other exciting experiences.
Furthermore, in 2025, Universal Orlando Resort will launch its most ambitious project yet: Universal Epic Universe, promising unparalleled immersion and innovation across more than 50 attractions and experiences.
On the accommodation front, Evermore Orlando Resort and Conrad Orlando offer luxurious options for visitors, while Villatel Orlando Resort caters to families with private villa rentals. Universal Orlando Resort expands its hotel portfolio with the opening of Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort.
Orlando’s culinary scene continues to gain recognition, with four new Michelin-starred restaurants identified in the MICHELIN Guide. Special awards were also granted to notable individuals and establishments, showcasing Orlando’s culinary excellence and commitment to sustainability.
