Busch Gardens Williamsburg marks the grand reopening of its iconic Loch Ness Monster roller coaster after an extensive restoration. The coaster, affectionately known as “Nessie,” has seen 900 feet of its classic steel track replaced, and now offers riders enhanced experiences with new visual and auditory elements designed to enhance the Scottish-themed adventure. The revamped journey includes a fresh entrance, ride platform, and a captivating soundtrack tailored specifically for this attraction. As riders ascend the lift hill and plummet into the first drop, they’re teased with sightings of a mysterious creature beneath the waters, culminating in a dramatic encounter within a dimly lit cave.
The Virginia-based theme park celebrated the occasion with a grand opening ceremony featuring traditional Scottish bagpipes and a ceremonial first ride, joined by members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts, park leadership, and local officials, marking the return of the world’s first roller coaster with interlocking loops.
“We gave our Members the opportunity to be the first to experience the reimagined Loch Ness Monster during exclusive Member ride time this past week, and they loved it,” said Kevin Lembke, President of Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA. “For many of our Members, Loch Ness Monster was their first roller coaster. These Members and their families, alongside a new generation of thrill seekers returned for a preview of our newest attraction. Now, we can’t wait to share this thrill with all our visitors today and for many years to come.”
