Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Thursday dismissed Sam Pitroda’s ‘racist’ remark and expressed astonishment at how such an educated individual could make such comments.
Vadra emphasised that while his wife, Priyanka, and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi are actively working for the party, Pitroda’s statement provides an opportunity for the BJP to “raise unnecessary issues.”
“I absolutely disagree with what Sam Pitroda has said. ‘Bakwas ki hai’. How can someone so educated say something like this? He was very close to Rajiv Gandhi but he should be a little responsible,” Vadra told news agency ANI.

Pitroda, a close associate of the Gandhi family, resigned as chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress on Wednesday following a controversy sparked by his politically incorrect remarks highlighting India’s diversity.
In an interview with The Statesman, while talking about India’s diversity, Pitroda said: “We could hold together a country as diverse as India — where people on the East look like Chinese, people on the West look like Arabs, people on the North look like maybe Whites and people in South India look like Africans. It doesn’t matter. We are all brothers and sisters.”
Following Pitroda’s remark, the video of the interview quickly went viral, drawing criticism from across the spectrum. Several leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lambasted the Congress over Pitroda’s controversial remarks and demanded an apology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also rebuked the grand old party for ‘insulting Indians based on their colour’.
“I can tolerate it when abuses are hurled at me, but not when they are hurled at my people. We will not accept this racist mentality,” the Prime Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the Congress party also distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh intervened to mitigate the backlash against his party, stating, “The analogies drawn by Mr. Sam Pitroda in a podcast to illustrate India’s diversity are most unfortunate and unacceptable. The Indian National Congress completely dissociates itself from these analogies.”
