Eghan, who has been an artist herself for eight years, noticed her son’s artistic talent when he was just six months old.“He already knows what colours complement each other,” she said.
To qualify for the record, GWR required Ace-Liam to participate in a professional exhibition open to the public and sell his work, which needed to be completed to a professional standard and with evidence that he did it independently.
Ace-Liam’s work was exhibited at the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra from December to early January, where he sold nine out of the ten pieces on display and was even commissioned by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
Ace-Liam’s journey into the art world was initially unintended. As a single mother, Eghan needed to find a way to keep her son occupied while she worked on a commissioned piece for Miss Universe 2023. She spread out a stretched canvas on the floor, put some paint on it, and let him play with it. “He was so intrigued by the bright colours,” she recalled. His first masterpiece was aptly named, The Crawl.
Eghan hopes that her son will follow in the footsteps of renowned Ghanaian artist Amaoko Boafo and international artists like Jackson Pollock and Damian Hirst. She believes that Pollock’s vibrant and spontaneous work reflects her son’s artistic style.
Eghan aims to secure an international scholarship for Ace-Liam to continue nurturing his talent and encourages other parents to support their children’s talents from an early age. Ace-Liam now has his own studio, created by his devoted mother, where he can continue to create his next masterpieces.
