Tourism Malaysia‘s latest mission to Oman and Qatar aims to fortify ties and showcase new attractions, boosting West Asian tourism.
Tourism Malaysia initiated a promotional journey to Oman and Qatar from May 12 to May 15, enhancing its efforts to strengthen tourism connections and introduce its latest attractions to the West Asian market. This initiative followed their successful involvement in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).
The Malaysian delegation, comprising 23 members, included twelve travel agents, eight hotel operators, two product owners, and a state government official. They presented Malaysia’s newest tourism attractions, which were captivating, engaging, motivational, enticing, soothing, and thrilling.
The trip included dedicated business-to-business (B2B) interactions and networking events in Muscat and Doha, which led to fruitful collaborations and a deeper understanding among Malaysian and local travel professionals. Detailed briefings and presentations further detailed the vitality of Malaysia’s tourism sector. The Malaysian ambassadors to Oman, H.E. Shaiful Anuar Mohammad, and Qatar, H.E. Zamshari Shaharan, participated in the mission in their respective postings.
Travelers from West Asia have been among the top five spenders in Malaysia, noted for their high spending per visit and longer stays. With a revival in the number of West Asian visitors, this mission was a pivotal move to boost promotional activities in both Oman and Qatar.
In 2023, Malaysia saw 18,078 visitors from Oman and 2,464 from Qatar. While these figures show promising growth, the goal is to reach or exceed the pre-pandemic numbers of 23,911 and 4,089 visitors in 2019. This objective is supported by direct flights to Kuala Lumpur provided by Qatar Airways, Oman Air, and Salam Air, enhancing travel accessibility.
